The Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park is in in regional Victoria, about 3 and half hours by road from the Melbourne CBD. The Gippsland Lakes are a system of coastal lagoons that are separated from the Tasman Sea by Ninety Mile Beach. Free campsites in the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park include Shoreline Drive, Red Bluff, and Spoon Bay.

Shoreline Drive has ready access to nearby Golden Beach, while Red Bluff and Spoon Bay are bush camping spots. Popular camping activities within the Gippsland Lakes Coastal Park include bushwalking, hiking, mountain biking and fishing.

2. Babinda Rotary Park, Queensland

Babinda Rotary Park in Cairns in Far North Queensland is a free campsite that’s just 6 kilometres from the iconic Babinda Boulders. This area has many freshwater swimming holes that are surrounded by massive granite boulders and lush rainforest.

You can stay at the Babinda Rotary Park campsite for up to 72 hours. Dogs are allowed there, and there are picnic and barbecue facilities available. No bookings are required.

3. Cosy Corner East, Western Australia

Cosy Corner is a popular beach in in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia, about 5 hours south by road from the Perth CBD. It’s  waters are crystal clear and it’s a great spot for swimming, fishing and snorkelling.

The Cosy Corner East campsite is located just a few minutes away in Kronkup. It’s pet- friendly, there are bins onsite, and you can stay there for up to 7 days.

4. Ellenborough Reserve, New South Wales

The free Ellenborough Reserve campsite is located about 4 and a half hours north of the Sydney CBD, inland from Port Macquarie. You can stay there for up to 14 days.

Popular activities there include swimming and fishing in the Ellenborough River, bushwalking to Ellenborough Falls, and visiting the nearby Biriwal Bulga National Park.
